Snack #1
Wasabi crab crisps. At first bite, I thought these lacked potency, but upon further consumption, they provided a good amount of kick. The wasabi flavor really came through. I could have used a little more crab, and they weren't super crispy, but overall, an enjoyable snack.

These are squid bites (I made that up). These bring my count of cephalopod-/crustacean-/fish-flavored snacks to five: octopus, crab, shrimp, tuna and squid. When they bury me, I want that to go on my tombstone.
Anyway, these were a bit underwhelming. Not very squid-y, decent crunch, not much else going on.

On a related note, remember these?
I was a little harsh on them a little in my initial review (https://gangneungstyle.blogspot.kr/2018/02/i-lost-something-cool-today.html). I kept them around in my room after the day I bought them, and every day when I would get back to my hotel, before I'd go to bed, I'd eat a few, and they started to grow on me. In an unprecedented move, I'm going to amend my initial rating and bump them up to a 7.7.
I hope you all are enjoying watching the Games back home. How's the coverage been? What's been your favorite thing to watch? How perfect a couple would Canadian ice dancers Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir make? Totes perf, right???!!!

Hey! Loving the updates, whether they're long or short. Have to say, we could use a norovirus update. I'm on the edge of my seat.
ReplyDeleteWe've been watching on NBC's olympics app on Roku. I'd rank coverage as "alright". I'm sure it's madness on the ground there, but we've often been left in the dark by a lack of clear scheduling. Mostly Torico just says "So, like, figure skating and speed skating and maybe other stuff will be on tonight," with no info about what time or what order the athletes will perform in. Also, returning to TV with commercial breaks has been stultifying.
Those Canadians were NUTS. They looked and skated like miraculous Disney villains. And yeah, there seems to be some chemistry there. Totes perf, indeed.
I for one have enjoyed Biathlon and Ski Jump. Biathlon is a crazy sport. I'd like to see two other fairly arbitrary activities thrown together. Like, run a marathon but stop every three kilometers to catch a butterfly.
Where in the arena building are you when ice skating events are happening? Are you ever where all those photographers and press are that the camera catches sometimes? Also, do you, like, know the Shib sibs? Because that would, literally, like make you famous.
Norovirus, yes! We haven't received an official update about norovirus recently, which I think is a good sign, although I did read an article somewhere that said nine new cases were discovered...so we're not totally out of the woods yet!
ReplyDeleteI think your experience with the coverage is similar to most people's. If you want to watch certain events in their entirety, you have the option to do so off of NBC's main network, but most Americans don't care enough about the winter Olympics to go past the primetime coverage. That's where they highlight all the most compelling stories, anyway. There's obviously a huge pro-American bias to their coverage, so if you're a fan of a country other than the U.S., or want to watch events the U.S. doesn't excel in, you're mostly out of luck.
Biathlon is wacky. Norm MacDonald had an old joke where he'd say, "They should run a 100-meter dash, then...fish." Same idea.
I sit in the "press tribune," which takes up a sizable portion of one entire side of the arena. It's on the same side as where the judges are (if that helps). I'm usually near a crotchety-looking gentleman and an Asian guy...sooo, that doesn't narrow it down for you at all.
I know the Shib Sibs. I've probably known them longer than almost anyone. They lived in Colorado Springs the same time we did, and in their free time, they would volunteer where I worked, doing menial tasks for us like filing, copying, etc. We were on the same flight from Detroit to Korea, so I talked to them for a little bit before we boarded. I guess that makes me almost famous.
